There is no depth to the plot, and no tension between the characters. How great it could have been if he had been kept the awkward nervous genius and she the decisive strategic leader. The main character could have been more human and less all-knowing and omnipotent. I really didn’t know what to expect and found myself fully immersed in - ta da, science fiction. The book is named The Long Winter, but the actual "winter apocalypse" and eradication of most of mankind is not well covered at all.
