And that was my only point. Also, it's just a guess, but using the EN-EL3a with it's 74. volts for something that's intended to be done when using the 11.2 volt EN-EL4a or AA batteries probably wasn't especially good for it over a long period of time.Thus it is not the grip per se that accounts for higher frames, it is the power source. I can understand the DX crop mode but I don't understand why having a battery grip would help.not exactly.

I'm sure they have close this loophole in the D800 so your only option ot get the higher frame rate is getting the grip.Also would a cheaper afte-market battery grip do the same thing for the frame rate?
d800 frame rate and battery grip question I assume that these grips may not give me 9 fps with my EN-EL18a battery - but I thought I would be the guinea pig for you guys and test them out.
